The War on Kids

America’s public schools were once considered the hope of freedom and democracy. Yet, as John Whitehead reveals in this week’s vodcast, students currently attending public schools will be marked by overreaching zero tolerance policies, heightened surveillance, and an emphasis on behavior-controlling drugs–all resulting in the destruction of privacy and freedom.

    Troll.

I commend these efforts being made against these zero tolerance policies. The school systems today in America are becoming more and more controlling over the students attending these institutions. It is sickening to see these kids restricted the way that they are.

You clearly have no sense of morality or common sense on this issue. Why even bother commenting on this issue if you have nothing worth while to say?

If a kid misbehaves at school, the teacher may recomend to the parents that the child gets put on psychiatric drugs to control his behavior. At least my second grade teacher did that on several occassions because i was disrespectful in her class. My parents didn’t agree though.

In more extreme cases, the school can tell parents that they need to put their children on drugs or they will call CPS (child protective services) who can remove their children from them if they don’t comply.

school was fine when I was a kid. its the current generations of parents who want no responsibility for their kids that have allowed schools to get like this.

  • soavifox says:

This wasn’t so bad when class sizes were smaller. We have too many kids per teacher so they get dumb about controling them.

I agree, parents need to discipline their children. It’s these degenerate parents that need to pick up the slack on their part and teach their children right from wrong. I know that some of the kids i grew up with, their parents gave less than a shit if their children got hammered on school night or even drank at all.

the zero tolerance policy seems very dictatory

I don’t want my kids to go to prison, so I will not send them to get institutionalized in school.

WTF!? This is retarded! Way to get video from schools in the worst hoods in america. I’m 15 and this doesn’t happen, I’m sorry.

I went to a school that was sort of like this when i was in first grade,it was for “special” students. They thought since i was behind on my work i was a special needs case so they sent me to it. When a child is bad or didnt want to do work they stuck them in a cubby closets against the wall, when they lash out they would sit on their backs and restrain them (which has killed kids) They had bars on the doors and gates around the school so kids couldnt escape. They had a padded room for other kids

  • LyeLye says:

by the way i was one of the kids who had tried to escape, uniformed police officers tracked me down at the end of the hall while i was trying to rattle the pad locked door open. That school was a fucking nightmare. It was called camalot it is located in virginia.

The problem with the system is pressure. There’s this constant insane pressure to be perfect. This pressure to have great grades, have lots of friends, be good at sports, get into college, etc etc etc. It’s no wonder kids go crazy and shoot up their school. I’m in school right now and its ridiculous. It’s so competitive and the kids are assholes and everyone’s judgmental and aggressive.

Too bad a good documentary is ruined by slagging on kids with disabilities. ADHD is not in scientific dispute. Peter Breggin does say there are NO mental disabilities, or mental illnesses. The brain is immune for any malfunction according to him and the scientologists. Sadly it’s a lot of children with these disabilities who are most affected by the zero tolerance policies. Medication is necessary and while there is an urban myth in it being over-prescribed there’s no merit in it.
