Phonics! The right way to read a phonetic language like English. My younger cousin went to a public school and learned to associate full words with sounds rather than a basic structure, so seeing C-A-T together meant, “cat”, and that the relations between c, a, and t don’t matter. At age 12, he couldn’t spell “America” and couldn’t write in cursive. At age 15, he told me that learning to spell correctly was irrelevant outside of school and so he wouldn’t work on it unless absolutely required.
